View Full Version : What do you use?
Hi all,
Since Launching the SW toolset in March last year and soon thereafter this forum, we've seen a rapid increase in affiliates making use of the toolset.
There are some great SW sites out there, many with their very own unique styles... much of this self taught knowledge is shared on this forum which is always fantastic to see.
Would be great to know how you all use tools and what you are using. We would be very grateful if you could all participate in answering our Poll (above), it gives us all an idea of how you use our tools (including some of our very welcome newbie members :D )
Please feel free to add to this thread with some examples and further info if you wish (for example, How are you using the client? Anyone coded using the API? if so in what environment? etc...)...
Looking forward to your responses
Cheers,
Adrian
I am currently using v1 and v2 of the client, together with a variety of normal banners and bits and pieces like that. I am not using any widgets at the moment, I may do in the next few days though with my Christmas promo stuff coming together slowly.
I played around with the API and despite it being pretty simple, it requires more work than it's worth.

I use V1 & V2 plus one site which uses the API, no widgets
Still use client V1. too much work to rebuild with v2, so the longer i can put it off the better.
Use V2 api to build my own widgets and run various cron type stuffage.
Every time I try and use the affwin widgets, something p**ses me off about them so I walk away.
it's usually the whole interface thing that gets my goat. it's built to be fool proof, but in fool proofing anything, you prevent the non-fools from doing it creatively. way too restrictive. it'd be great if each widget was based on a hackable URL, then we could actually do something with it.
Using client v2 here. I try to keep it as default as possible so it's easy to upgrade in future but have started making minor mods.
Rgds
I could swear there's a damn sight more than 9 people have asked for help on here, yet only 9 people have bothered to do this poll, even though it was Adrian that set this one up as a kinda official type poll.
It's hardly a wonder that AWs don't bother with affiliate requests a lot of the time, when so few people can make the tiny bit of effort needed to help themselves.
I'm still using V1 of the API because I'm too chicken to start from scratch with V2 and lose everything I've built up over the past year. I'll upgrade to V2 sometime early next year when Christmas sales appear to be dropping off. I'm also gonna be using that there new gift finder API which perfectly complements my site and stops me having to constantly think about ways I could do it myself.

I'd say set up a seperate domain for V2 to be honest. Keep your version 1 site intact as long as it works and brings you in sales. At the end of the day, 2 sites has more earning potential too.

I did that once but I found that I liked my first idea so much the second site became more and more like the first one, to the point where I began to think (rightly or wrongly) that having two near identical sites was preventing either site from getting good rankings. I ditched the second site and concentrated on making one really good site, which seems to paying off, slowly.
I understand your thinking but I'm too lazy to develop and maintain two separate sites :D Although I will probably develop the new version on a separate (private) domain until I'm convinced the change over will be a success.
I use v2 of client software and keep customizing it on a regular basis. I don't currently use any widgets though am looking into it. I think this is among the best tools Affiliate Window have come up with to simplify product promotions for affiliates.
However, I am not sure why Affiliate Window hide the referring urls to sales from Affiliates yet making it available to merchants. I believe Affiliates should equally be informed of the links that work by specifying the referring urls that led to sales generation. I know we can make use of clickrefs but this is something I would like Affiliate Window to look into.

I am using the API at the minute as well as some links using the Firefox Link Generator :)
