Category listing displayed horizontally

Hi,

I am modifying the default template in V2.

Is it possible to replicate the category listing as a horizontal menu in the page header, with the children of each category being displayed when the mouse is hovered over?

I did try copying the code {include file="elements`$DIRECTORY_SEPARATOR`category_tree.tpl"} from index.tpl to elemnents/page.header.tpl, but this just displayed the categories vertically increasing size of the page header section.

Any help would be appreciated.
