OK my host has now installed the correct php version (I think)

I have an existing site and want to install the new one with exactly the same configuration and settings as the existing site. How do I go about this. I havent done masses to be honest. Here;s what Ive done.

1. I have a logo top left and a set of ads at the top.
2. Customised landing page
3. All links opening in new window
4. pre-set number of hot picks on the landing page.

Is there anyway I can install the new version without damaging the old version which is running fine. My other point of wory is that the existing site is well indexed. Can I preserve all current urls when I install the new version?

Basically I want to make the whole thing seamless and as simple as possible without having to spend the hours I spent setting up the existing version.

As far as I would say, version 1 and version 2 are pretty much non-compatible with what you are wanting to achieve, without some major editing.

Just one really small example:

In version 1, basic category links went a bit like so:

http://www.shopwindow/category.php?c=61

The same category link in version 2 goes like:

http://www.shopwindow.com/category.php?rb=4-61

Which basically means, without doing at a very minimum, some link fiddling via htaccess or something, you'd be getting nowhere.

Personally, what i'd say is either set up a new domain for the new version, or take the hit that comes with starting over and scrub version 1 and replace it properly with version 2. Taking into account, version 2 is hugely better than version 1. I have two instances of ShopWindow client running, one on V1 and the other on V2, I've kept my busy on on V1 for now, while I make the one with V2 as good as possible, then when sales get going nicely on the V2 site, i'll then start work on the other one. That way, at least cash is still flowing and although indexed pages from each are lost at one point or another, at least there is always one up and running properly. I spent a long time doing the site the first time, but have spent much longer this time and am so far very very happy with the way it's starting to look.

goodf idea

Ill keep the version 1 going and put v2 on a different url

I have a problem now though!!!! and I have emailed support this morning when I discovered it

All my product links in V1 are suddenly not working - why is this? I haven't touced anything on it for months so why should links suddenly not be working. Has AWIN done something naughty or errant to cause this.

Plus anyone on the specific 4 points Ive mentioned above?

Hi gunner,

I believe that this is due to the URLs changing from:

http://www.awin1.com/pclick.php?p=20698460&a=69063&m=1402&platform=cs&clickref=swinDOTcom

Which is what it should be, to:

http://www.awin1.com/pclick.php?p=20698460a=69063m=1402platform=cs&clickref=swinDOTcom

Notice that the ampersands are missing and thus breaking the link.

This is not something that we have come across before and we are not aware of any changes being made to the V1 installs (as this is an isolated occurrence and other installs do not seem to be affected) and you are adamant that no changes have been made your end.

Our dev guys are looking into this and we will issue a response in due time.

Hi gunner,

OK, first I think that you should prevent opening the links in a new window. Keep them in the same window and see if that makes a difference.

If not, then navigate to the following file:
includes/classes/class.api_product.php

And insert:

var_dump($aProducts);die();

Right before the following line:

'return $aProducts;'

With the inclusion of this bit of code you will be able to see exactly what is being returned by the AWin server and this may shed some light on the problem.

Keep us updated with your progress.

Cheers

I will do this but not being funny - don't really see why I should start tinkering around with it. It is VITAL that links open in a new window - otherwise how do users get back to look at alternate products. So even if this fixes it I would want a fix without this solution

since you didn't come back to me and tell me how to revert to same window links i went to step two anyway

this is what i get on an example link. Obviously it's latin to me and obviously Ive now removed that command as it makes the site look even worse.

The &s seems to be missing in the urls - I checked my own version 1 site and that is working OK so it would seem the problem is at your end - cant think of a reason for the & between parameters disappearing - In your position I would do a clean download and re apply changes ...

I'm sorry.

Can you explain how this can happen?

an why just because it hasn't happened to your site should this be at my end? Maybe someone could explain HOW this could be at my end.

I haven't actually touched the site since 2007!!!!

and no-ones told me how to switch off new link urls which, since Ive not touched it since 2007 - Ive forgotten

When did you stop earning from the site? This would tell you roughly when the problem arose.

Something has changed somewhere - either you, your host, an intruder or SW!

I think that this piece of string is 4 foot 7 inches long.

i have no idea

i dont have any click refs in there

if AW had proper url tracking on clicks and sales Id be able to tell - how else can I tell? I know the links were fine about 2 weeks ago because I tried them.

Gunner,

Can you please check your private messages.
I sent a message this morning regarding investigation into this.

just to add that thanks to George's help this problem has been rectified. I don't think we really know what caused it but I would advise everyone to check their existing V1 sites for a similar problem.

It was solved by re-copying the files over again even though there had been no changes at all to the installation files.

many thanks once again
