View Full Version : version 1?
well no-one has ever bothered to reply to my post re version 1. I have had av1 store from the beginning. I want to install version 2 but do not want to have to re-tweak every file I tweaked. How do I do this? If this can't be done I'd like to stick with version 1 - it works fine for me.

Hi gunner,
Unfortunately the file structure for SW v2 is very different from the previous v1 and therefore a simple upgrade/plug-in is not possible. You could however tweak your existing styling templates and re-apply them on the new version... I would strongly advise moving over to v2 if possible as it offers vast improvements to functionality and performance... Another important note to remember is that we're no longer releasing updates or enhancements for the old version and ongoing support will be limited.
A list of key v2 enhancements can be seen here:

Thats all well & good if you can actually get V2 to work Adrian ;)

If your site is already indexed and receiving spider and human visits then you also have to consider how you move from v1 to v2 when the urls generated on v1 are a different construct to v2 - it is even more fun if you have mod rewritten urls!
Think about how to mass 301 redirect from v1 to v2 via .htaccess - if you can work out all the mappings!
Overall, it is probably best to set up a new domain with v2 on it and prepare for the day when your v1 site will simply die as a result of the v1 API probably being no longer available.

Indeed Dave! As outlined in my email, the workaround for older versions of PHP is not always guaranteed to work and I would strongly advise either updating your PHP version or switching to an alternative provider in order get the most from the new version. If you need any further help, please drop me an email.
Cheers,
Adrian
dont think my host supports php5 (is that necessary) so Ill need to stay permanently (prob 12 months at least with old version)
Hello Gunner,
I believe that it has been said on the forum previously that there is now to be no fixed date for discontinuing V1. For the foreseeable future V1 installs will all remain live and will not be taken down.
In regards to the PHP version then we recommend that affiliates are running PHP 5.2.6 as stated in the documentation, please see here. (http://www.shopwindowforum.com/showthread.php?t=821). However, on the forum there is a post that has a fix that some affiliates have had success in using for older PHP versions, please see here. (http://www.shopwindowforum.com/showthread.php?t=791)

my server uses php 4.4.7
it's a reseller account so I doubt it will be upgraded soon.
can it work with this version?

As you should hopefully know, the ShopWindow V2 Client software is not supported by versions of PHP older than version 5.1.0. Obviously this includes any PHP4 release (which is no longer supported by PHP themselves).
HTH. See the link in George's post above.
