View Full Version : Zero pounds on some products ?
Why does this happen, i have zero control over it as well, it bugs me and i think it is a error on the side of the merchant.
Check this out all the products from ‘from Fitness Options’:
http://www.sassussex.com/savershandb...gory.php?c=256
There needs to be a way to stop this from happening, i can just cancel the affiliation with them but i would rather not,
basically is this a merchant issue or a Shop Window issue ?
Thanks
When the "Sort by" 'low to high' option is used.
Its very irritating.

That’s outrageous, merchants should not be allowed to do that, im tempted to get rid of them...
Dirty tricks... not good ?!
There should be something done about this, it’s not fair and it’s not good for business, well I suppose if you look at it from their angle it is but what if every merchant started to do that ????
It’s not as if there prices are even high, I think there pretty reasonable.
Hi Guys,
We are aware of the zero value issue, and are trying to work out a resolution that works in all possible scenarios.
To answer your question Art, this is in cases due to the merchant passing a value which does not meet our DTD, or actually including zero value products.
At present, we are in the process of confirming some final development to our datafeed system at merchant end. On completion of this we are going to be contacting each merchant and reviewing their feeds individually, ensuring that they are providing the best possible data set for not only ShopWindow, but also the network.
This is a huge task, but crucial to the development of the Toolset. We have already initiated this process with several of our larger merchants, as we feel that this will help other merchants to gain an understanding of how important this process is.
To help us to identify which feeds may be more urgent than others, I have been thinking about starting a thread in which you can communicate to me your feeds and issues.
This way, our team will have a feed log to work through, which can also be shown to the merchants in question (as its coming directly from you guys, its importance increases :) to help speed up the process.
Does this sounds feasible?
Your thoughts on this are much appreciated.
Thanks
Amo

Personally, I would like to see you develop a set of 'standards' to measure the quality of any Merchant feed so that we have something against which we can actually attempt to judge a feed.
For example, what are the standards expected for images? Number? Physical size? File size? Resolution? Etc,etc.
What are the standards for product descriptions? No description means no inclusion? No embedded HTML? No direct phone numbers in descriptions? Individual product records for diffent size/colour options?
What are the standards for Brand identification? All products should have a brand defined? Etc,etc.
What are the standards for defining adult content? What ....? Etc... Etc...
It would not take too long to identify quite a long list of requirements, the whole point being that whilst one can find some consistency within an individual product feed when many feeds are joined together then the REAL differences between the feeds becomes painfully apparent.
I am sure that we can all find 'fault' with virtually every feed but we are all bringing different expectations to the table. Personally, I would find it interesting if a separate thread was started for EVERY merchant feed (not all on day one!) and that through discussing SOME merchant feeds then this may help identify what standards ought to apply to EVERY merchant feed.
Just my 2p's worth.

For the time being i have made my site say "Check Price" instead of £0.00, looks better than so much appearing free

How did you do that? and can you do that with indavidual merchants or just the whole site?

Just using smarty operators
Smarty (http://smarty.php.net/manual/en/)
I have it for all retailers, in this instance i replaced
{#currencySign#}{$oProduct->fSearchPrice|number_format:2}
with
{if $oProduct->fSearchPrice|number_format:0 != 0}{#currencySign#}{$oProduct->fSearchPrice|number_format:2}{else}Check Price{/if}
hope that helps

Completely agree. I understand that this is still early days and that merchants are going to need time to meet feed standards but I would like to know what the proposed feed standards are so I can code my site now to avoid big changes in the future and plan new features as the feed gets brought up to spec.
The image standards are particularly important - some of the AW 'full' images are only 90x90 pixels and others are 1200+ pixels wide. Another problem is the no-image image, sometimes merchants provide their own so the AW image shows the merchant's image instead of no-image.gif which I can't intercept and results in dozens of different no-image images which looks shoddy. Along with embedded HTML, inappropriate capitalisation etc. etc. there's a pretty long list of things for us to correct that could be more easily corrected at the source.
Can we get a proposed spec for datafeeds?
Cheers
Steve

Can we please have a new forum section entitled something like 'Merchant feed Issues' - then we could start a 'General issues' thread for items affecting ALL feeds and we could all agree to start a new thread for EACH Merchant (with standard titles) and finally a 'Other Issues' for anything not covered by the above. I already have a number of issues to report but do not want to post them all over the shop (just a couple of simple examples, Play.com feed seems to have Image URLs for their description, Bennetts do not seem to believe in any descriptions for anything!). Anyways, at least we could start the collective 'Audit' process and all issues with any one feed would be kept together which should help your discussions with individual Merchants. It goes without saying that Merchants would have the right of reply to our comments - in fact it might generate an interesting discussion or two.

Works great, thanks for the code.

This would really sort out the problem for me, but i cant seem to find where the code is placed, could you tell me the file its in?
Thanks in advance
Alex
I've changed the code in the following files.

Hi All,
I have added a new forum where you can now communicate any issues you may be experiencing with datafeeds.
Through the use of this Forum, the ShopWindow team can work towards improving the quality of merchant datafeeds, providing a better results set to your users.
Datafeed Reports & Issues (http://www.shopwindowforum.com/forumdisplay.php?f=15)
Thanks for highlighting the need Confuscious :D
