View Full Version : Adult Filter Needs Fixing Asap!!!
I now have products from the "Adult Toys" category appearing on my homepage in the hotpick results for Gifts, Gadgets & Toys (173). This is unacceptable. The adult filter is on in my account and "Adult Toys" does not appear in my category tree yet products from adult categories (not even incorrectly categorised products!) are appearing all over my site. Not only does this make me look bad (it's a family friendly shoppings site) it breaches the T&Cs of at least one merchant I can think of by showing adult content alongside theirs.
There's a lot a problems with the API that I can live with but this one I cannot. I realise V2 is "just around the corner" but this needs fixing now. No questions. You're making us all look bad.
Now I'm finding what I would consider "adult" underwear (open thongs anyone?), categorised as "Clothing & Accessories" from BeCheeky and PABO on my site. So I go to my account to block this merchant only to find that I haven't even joined them!!! So why are they on my site??? Please, someone, anyone, get this sorted ASAP.
And just so you know how serious this is:

Hi authcode,
Very odd that you've products on your site from merchants that you're not joined to...
Please can you email me your details - affiliate ID, the website(s) its appearing on and also all the merchants that you wish to block.
Will take a look for you once I have this info.
Cheers,
Adrian
I'd already raised a ticket for this and it appears to be fixed now. Hopefully someone will explain what happened and reassure me that it won't ever happen again. I don't like finding adult content on my site when there's nothing I can do about it.
Adrian,
This seems to be fixed now but the (slightly patronising) response I got from support was:
By default 'soft memberships' are created with all merchants when using ShopWindow. Else it wouldn't be much of a price comparison engine.
You can block merchants by clicking on ShopWindow Toolset (beta), then on Merchant Manager.
which would imply that nothing was changed your end and since nothing changed my end I'm slightly worrried that this could happen again. If your guys fixed a prooblem, great, these things happen, but at least offer an explaination as to what the problem was.
Regarding the support response - there is no option to block merchants I have not joined, regardless of soft membership. Does this mean I have to first join merchants I wish to block? Because I've never done that and this problem has never occured before.
Hi Steve,
I can fully understand your concerns with this one. I've just been speaking with our dev guys and they've assured me that nothing has been altered this morning that would affect this. They're however taking a good look into why it happened in the first place...

No, this is not the case. It appears the bug/problem that made this occur has temporarily let these merchants slip through the filter. All merchants in your shop should be within your manager and you should have full control whether to block/join each individual one. Just to clarify, initially joining merchants in order to block them is not needed.
Apologies for the inconvenience caused, we hope to identify and fix the problem shortly.
Cheers,
Adrian
Thanks Adrian. Sorry about the tone of my posts but I've spent the last few days fighting fires with my sites because of the server migration.
To expand on what happened - products from BeCheeky and PABO started appearing on my site (product lists and hotpicks) about the same time that the server migration took place. After checking my merchant manager I can confirm that the two merchants (BeCheeky and PABO) were and are in the "merchants NOT in my ShopWindow" list. I'm also not joined to these merchants in AW. There may be others that appeared that I didn't notice but my reckoning is that merchants that are "NOT in my ShopWindow" but "contain adult content" were being displayed for one reason or another.
Hope that helps.
Great,
Will pass this additional info onto the investigating dev guy! I'm sure it'll help rectify the original problem.
Much appreciated ;)
Adrian
