Hello all,
Just wanted to give you a heads up regarding a server migration that is due to happen soon …
Digital Window have planned a server migration for Wednesday the 14th of May 2008, looking to take place between 9am and 5pm. This is necessary as it will allow us to increase the server capacity as the current location of our servers does not allow us to add extra cabinets/power. This is going to involve physically moving our servers to a new area at our managed hosting site.
Due to the current design of the infrastructure we can move half of the system into place, set that live, and then move the other half. The reason that this is likely to take all day is because we have allocated half an hour per server, which includes moving and testing to ensure that the process runs as smoothly as possible. During this time all feed processing from the merchants will be delayed.
Best Case Scenario
A best case scenario will involve no noticeable changes to the public view of any ShopWindow sites.
Worst Case Scenario
In the worst case, as this is a maintenance window, some service loss may be experienced during the day. However, with the rigid process plan we only expect that the service may be degraded (as the solution will be running at half server capacity for a period of time).
Realistically we only expect the serving of the images to be degraded; everything else should function without issue.
How you can help minimize the impact
In order to minimise the impact that this migration will have on you, we advise that you ensure that your ShopWindow Client is handling SOAP errors with the best possible efficiency, and offering users some form of communication to ensure their continued usage of your shops during any potential period of downtime.
How will this change help you in the long term?
As our services grow in the future we will be able to increase capacity quicker and easier, this is currently not the case.
We apologise in advance for any inconvenience that may be caused.
Regards
