A question for Amo and others!

I was thinking of putting a newsletter sign up on each of my sites but having read your comment on a4uforum from Amo - 'Also with regards to the email signup, we identify which affiliate the user signing up has landed through, so that we can send out shopwindow info and include the affiliates ID within the links (therefore generating multi session commissions for the affiliate and not for shopwindow.com).' - I was wondering whether we could hook into your email system by providing our INDIVIDUAL site details as part of the sign up process and hosting the sign up on OUR sites such that you could then send out shopwindow info embedded with not only our affiliate ID BUT also the originating domain?

The main benefit that I would see is that the centralised distribution of a newsletter containing say for example Merchant discount offers would save a lot of people a lot of time - perhaps, a few of us could collaborate on building a 'generic' style newsletter. I would welcome your thoughts on this.

Hi Paul,

Thanks for the post.

I would like to find out more information from you in regards to your idea, as I would like to explore possible avenues of developing the ShopWindow Direct tool.

At present the email system is yet to be confirmed (i.e frequency of emails, content etc), and so your input at this stage can help to shape the outcome.

One question: are you suggesting that the data capture be on affiliate sites and not on shopwindow.com, so that domain etc can be captured also?

Thanks

Amo

Hi Amo

The basic idea would be for you to supply affiliates with a script to allow affiliates to submit email addresses to a 'COLLABORATIVE' list. Clearly there would need to be an email sign up page explaining the 'system' and what was on offer, frequency of offers, etc, etc. It should also be constructed on a 'double opt in' basis (unlike your current version - oops!) and possibly use a managed service. Just using such a set up to deliver coupon discounts ought to encourage sign up!

I will give this some more thought but there are many ways to approach this.

Just to give my perspective on one major advantage - let's say we have 100 AW partners with live sites gathering emails and let's say we each sign up one new person per day then in a years time I would have 365 email addresses to market to along with 99 other individual site owners but contrast this with you having a list of 36,500 to market to on behalf of your affiliate partners. I reckon that there would be quite a few merchants interested in paying a little extra to get an inclusion on the 'collaborative email' with this money covering system costs / income share with affiliates, etc - lots of issues to resolve! Certainly worth a thought or two, in my opinion.

I will call you next week with some ideas. Some forum feedback on this idea would also be welcomed.

Morning Paul,

Thanks for that post, I get an idea about the concept now.

I agree with you that if we had an email signup feature as part of the client software package across 100 sites, we would potentially gain more addresses to market to (due to being qualified traffic on your affiliate site).

This would result in a 'Client Software' generated list to market to.

From a network perspective feedback from other users on this would be beneficial on this, as this is a feature request which could enhance the Client Software tool if done properly :D

Look forward to talking about this next week Paul.
