Not sure if this is the correct forum but I'm looking for a dev to do some paid work on the api (I haven't done any php work only html and js). Any recommendations?

Thanks in advance.

Recommendation based on what? What did he do precisely? Some work??

The same person that takes paid work then gets other here to try to solve his problems. I will wait for Andy's post!

I fully believe that advertising paid work on this forum is against the ethics of which this community is based.
As a fully fledged and active member of other CMS communities, I find ggs1986 actions abismal.

What qualifies ggs1986 for this job, or to undermine this community?
Anyone can implement SW on any domain. Simply showing you an installation does not qualify anyone to ask for payment. If the problem was simply installation, then after working through problems on the community, I'm pretty positive anyone here would have eventually offered to install it for you FREE OF CHARGE (I know I would have). Recommending someone for paid work needs alot of thought, you need to know that he has done what no-one else could have done. You also need to know that you haven't just been charged for work he has copied from these boards or simply changed a few images and styles to make it look different.

As for prices, maximum £10 for installation and proof testing. £10-20 for new templates (including all images and stylesheets). If you've paid more than that, then you've been well and truly ripped off

If you want people to accept your recommendation, you should at the very least post a link to his work.

the essence of a CMS community is it's ability to develop the CMS by sharing thoughts and code samples.
take PHPNuke for example. When it was originally released by Francisco Burzi, it was unstable, very insecure and abit crap to say the least. Once a community was developed, PHPNuke became one of the most secure CMS's available with 100's of 1000's of user submitted modifications that anyone could implement.

Burzi still tries to screw it all up by releasing crappy versions, but the community dives in and resecures all new (and rewritten old) bugs within a day of the new versions release.

I see DigiWin as Burzi (sorry guys).
DigiWin have created a beautiful idea, but they can't fulfil everyones ambitions or needs with the same code, nor can they anticipate all bugs or security holes.

So, a community was created and is developing to build bespoke functionality by SHARING.

The original SW is insecure. Confi has had defacements. Without this community, we wouldn't know and DigiWin couldn't have fixed these holes. Within hours of Confis defacement, a fix was found and implemented. Hopefully everyone with SW has implemented these fixes.

The original SW had bugs, was very slow, didn't work very well on php4 and the datafeeds were (and some are) pretty poor.
With the help of this community, DigiWin have identified all problems and have either fixed them or are working very hard to do so.

Where would SW be now if this community was simply an advertising board for paid work?
It'd be unviable and on the verge of collapse.

With ggs1986 offering paid work within a day of joining this community, alarm bells ring for everyone. Since his initial "I'll do it" post, code examples have stopped being posted and all this community has become is a place to vent ones spleen about datafeed issues.

I still post the 'odd' fix for bugs I find, but I'm very cagey about posting code here now as I know for a fact, someone will come along and snaffle it, just to charge someone (who really should be snaffling it themselves).

The idea behind CMS is that anyone can do it. It only takes a week to learn the basics of PHP and those kind enough to post code examples, fixes and templates ALL enter into the spirit of things and give concise instructions for use. If you have a problem, post and someone will help. If you don't know HTML, then sorry, but you have no place in the affiliate world and should really get yourself a proper job!

DigiWin will be glad to know that since ggs1986's dive in, the community remains pretty solid. we still share, advise and develop, but not here. Email and PM have become the norm.

I would suggest that digiwin add some T+C to the boards asking that no-one publicly advertises paid work nor asks for it on this community as it's in danger of collapse. Enforcement would be difficult for DigiWin, as they have better things to do than moderate a community, however I'm sure if they asked nicely, some of the more matured developers would gladly assist.

Yep i agree with you, i have posted several personal code snippets and mods on here for all to share, plus a couple of templates.

I have received a fair few jobs from which i presume are visitors of this site but without advertising on it, if you are good at your work show us.

oh and another nice template coming soon... free of course :D

Hi Guys,

In light of this issue I am going to make it my priority to add some Forum Guidelines in order to prevent this from happening again. The backbone of this forum is the support offered by those that use it for its intended purpose and I would like to thank those that offer bug fixes, additional content and various extracts of code in order to further enhance the functionality of ShopWindow. I would like to thank Confuscius, Andy and IntroSites on this occasion for the aforementioned help that they offer and I would ask them to please not see this incident as a reason to refrain from contributing further to this forum. ShopWindow really appreciate the input from you guys, and from its other members too, and would like your help and feedback on the following guidelines for posting and activity within our forum:

No member is allowed to market their services in open forums.

No member is allowed to use abusive language.

No member is allowed to upload material that breaches copyright law.

No member is allowed to make references or post links to external sites that are not directly relevant to this forum (for example, no posting to adult sites).

If there are further points that should be added please pm them to me and I will review and update as necessary.

This forum relies on the kindness and generosity of those within the community to help fellow members. Just like how the members here refrain from using abusive language, making inflammatory remarks, uploading copy written material or making available material that may contain virus’s because they respect the essence of what makes an online community successful.

The ShopWindow forum, in our eyes, has been a huge success since its launch and we would like to keep it that way but this form of misuse is likely to deter the regular posters from getting involved.

We here at ShopWindow are sorry to hear that email and private message have become the norm for the developers to share their developments and hope that the enforcement of the terms and conditions may, in the near future, make those developments public once again.

I shall create a new thread in the Lounge to highlight this misuse of the community’s resources and shall send an email out to all.

Thanks, good to see. :)

Great post by the way Andy and I completely agree with the sentiment too. :)

I know I for one appreciate the spirit of this community and the way people help each other with genuine issues, bugs and customisations and it would be a terrible shame if we were to lose that, because of things like this cropping up.

Good starting point, George. Thanks for the thanks.

Unfortunately, I do get frustrated when people make posts and we see little or no input from DigiWin when the thread clearly requires or asks for a response, so it is nice to see some action on this one. Try T&C's next!

I assume that the new forum rules will not seek to limit my normal level of sarcasm!!

Confuscius, what would this forum be without your sarcasm? :D

Guys, I am just drawing up some forum guidelines now and I hope to have them posted by the end of the day. I would really appreciate it if members could take a look and offer feedback, if they feel anything needs to be added please PM me and I will review it.
