The new year is upon us and having had some success with Shop Window sites then I thought that it was about time that I sat down to think about changing my template design to be more structured and a lot prettier! It would be a lot more fun than just whacking up a few more sites! The reason is simple, I want to try to increase the average conversion rate by not losing visitors to other sites and getting the best deals conveyed as fast as possible.
One area that I am particularly interested in is that of voucher offers, given that some voucher sites have added Shop Window on the side of their sites with references back to their vouchers! I would like to find a clean simple way of in effect achieving the same but in reverse - adding Vouchers to a Shop Window site. I have thought about this and can achieve it through my own efforts but it would be better if there was a merchant / Shop Window based generic solution. With that in mind, I would like to explain my plan and get some feedback, if possible.
My plan is simple - I like things that way!
Step 1 is to allocate certain screen space to banner adverts. Firstly, incorporate a header 728x90 banner rotation system. Step 2, on the same lines, incorporate a side bar 120x600 banner rotation system. Step 3, incorporate a 468x60 banner on each product display page where the banner shown is determined by the merchant id. So for any merchant, ideally I would want to see 3 banners made available to me. So how to go about this?
Step 2 is that my initial thoughts would be to contact a couple of merchants with a request along the following lines. In the Affiliate Administration Area I would like to see under the 'Banners Other' section a new Banner group set up entitled 'Shop Window Banners'. Then, under that group I would like to see 3 banners named as follows: sw_728x90_MERCHANTID.gif : sw_468x60_MERCHANTID.gif : sw_120x60_MERCHANTID.gif - this means that every banner has a unique name, one single file type and only one current banner per merchant per size! In effect, a merchant has one place to keep available their best offers in 3 available formats.
Step 3 is how do you make best use of the banners. Well, they could end up being incorporated on many Shop Window sites and therefore are perfect for instant advertising - for example, got an offer that runs for one day then replace the standard banner with your one day ad. Got a discount code then create a banner for it which contains the instructions / terms or create a banner to your offers page or .... countless other things. The main benefits are clearly the speed at which you can get an offer out there and also you could start to take on the voucher sites in a different way - the voucher being on screen rather than having to go elsewhere to find one!
Step 4 is that I need a couple of willing merchants to give it a go and, presumably, AW would have to approve my suggestion? Suggestions anyone as to whom I should approach?
Step 5 is that, once set up, I think it would be easy to get other merchants to buy into the idea as we could show them some live examples. Also I am sure that others would have some interesting ideas on how to use this particular 'system'.
