View Full Version : Quandary ...

Consistently out of stock merchants are making my site look stupid.

However, google has taken a real shine to my site and, it would seem, is particularly keen on these merchants (ain't that the way! although it may be that I notice these more).

My quandary?

Do I continue to let google send visitors, only to have them land on pages that show out of stock items, or do I block the likes of Woolworths and Toys R Us and have potential visitors end up clicking on dead links?

[does anyone who has the power to do something about this care?]

This issue has been raised on more than one occasion and many months ago - the content and quality of feeds is still Shop Window's biggest failing.

It also made me laugh that a certain merchant now offers a new discount code on items where they just reduced the commission on those items. Another case of taking the Wii? :)

Clearly, there need to be some clear rules for Merchants and their feeds and, more importantly, these need to be ENFORCED!

I could suggest a way to deal with your current issue but I do not think that it will go down very well - try this! In your goto.php you could do a simple check on the link to see if the link was for a certain merchant and redirect the click to the top of a site who does pay commissions and does have stock. If you know that people are looking for a specific product then you could make the redirect specific. :p :p :p

Woolworths are now beyond a joke!

AW - Can nothing be done to remove the out of stock items?

BLOCKED!

Paul - I like the suggestion!

Perhaps the powers that be would rather a little diagram!

Customer search ----> Found item ----> Go to buy ----> Out of stock ----> "Stupid site!" ----> LOST CUSTOMER

Thanks

Hi Guys,

Our Head Of Merchant Partnerships is aware of the issue regarding Woolworth's datafeed. Every effort is being made to rectify the situation. As Woolworth's are a large brand, it does take a while for certain queries to be resolved. I must emphasise that we do push merchants to make ammendements to feeds where possible, as soon as possible.

I do hope to get a response from Woolworths in the next few days and will keep you informed with their datafeed latest.

Thankyou for your patience, and apologies for any inconvenience caused.

Kind regards
