What's the official line on shopping through our own sites to earn commission on our own purchases? I thought it was against the rules but the ShopWindow box in my account says "Earn commission from your purchases."
Do people use their own sites to earn commission? Anyone had any problems with this?
I've always thought it was positvely encouraged - a sale's a sale!
In fact there are plenty of threads in A4U about how affiliates have found there are tracking errors only when they have made their own purchases. This is an obvious declaration and no merchant/network has ever said they shouldn't.
I do - never had a problem (apart from failed tracking, but that's another issue altogether!).
I've always bought through my own sites, I consider it a perk of the job that we get a little back for the effort we put in.
I also get family and friends to purchase through my sites too and as said, sometimes it's the only way you get to find out if there are traccing issues going on.
No merchant in their right mind would stop one of their affiliates from making purchases through their own links, they'd be costing themselves sales and at the same time, seeing as I actively endorse many merchants from personal experience, any merchant that did stop me from getting what I consider a minor discount, would very quickly have all their links removed from my site.
All valid points. I'm not sure why I thought it was against the rules. Does anyone know if the amazon programme states that you can't purchase through your own links? I'm sure I read it somewhere and I signed up for AW and Amazon at the same time.
Well at least I know now just before I start my Christmas spending spree! :)

Amazon exclude your own sales from commission, they will show up in your account, then they will deduct them.

I hate to have to argue this point, but from own personal experiences, i've made hundreds of purchases through Amazon.co.uk and have always got commission from my own sales with them.
So I guess it kind of says one of two things here really, either you've been very unlucky with Amazon, or i've been very lucky with them.
Nice to have confirmation about the policy with commissions with AWs though, I suppose it was a bit of a policy gray area until now.
