View Full Version : Site seems to be very slow
I have just been checking through the site and it seems to be very slow, on some occasions it takes up to 40 seconds to call a page, it's like being on dial up again
Is anyone else having the same issue, we have reset our server so I don't think the problems is with us, can admin shed any light?
Regards
Stuart
Yes I have noticed this sporadically
search for keyword "chocolate" took on my server (which do nothing right now)
1 min 20 sec ( 31 March 2007 2:30AM Greenvich)
http://productsdirectory.co.uk/search/ (http://productsdirectory.co.uk/search/category.php?c=437&q=chocolate)
when the same search on http://shopwindow.com/ (http://shopwindow.com/category.php?c=437&q=chocolate) (about the same time of the night) took 2 sec
and shop by ishop http://www.i-shop-uk.co.uk/ (http://www.i-shop-uk.co.uk/category.php?c=437&q=chocolate) took 7 sec
I have dedicated server and I can see that it does not have any load, so what I can do to trace this problem?
Is it because my server located in US , New Jersey?
Any advice, idea? How to make it faster?

I have carried out the same check on "chocolate"
My page loaded in about 5-7 seconds. I am hosted with 1and1. Average load time for most pages is between 5-10 seconds.

I am located in US and "chocolate" all category search took 11 secs just now.
Hi Guys,
I am aware of this thread and monitoring as best as I can (bit difficult as its weekend though!).
A quick thought; are you all caching your pages? Or are the pages being forced to compile each time.
This may have a slight baring....
Thanks

As this is the first search for "chocolate" it would not have been cached for me.
i don't think it's just the shop - the AW main site has been crushingly slow recently too.

I must say that I am not too surprised about early performance issues given the size of the sites being created and the initial surge of spidering activity that I am personally seeing. It will be interesting to see just how much bandwidth a typical shop consumes per month - some people may be a little surprised! Suitable hosting recommendations will no doubt be discussed before too long given that unlimited rarely means unlimited!

I tried my another server (shared account in this case located in UK)
and the search for "chocolate" retured in 3 sec (10:30PM Greenvich 31 march 2007 )
http://chocolate-gift.co.uk/search/category.php?c=437&q=chocolate (http://chocolate-gift.co.uk/search/category.php?c=437&q=chocolate)
So the location of server is under suspisious.
But also might be version of OS/Web Server and even more likely PHP itself.
My slow working server has Apache/1.3.33 (Unix) with PHP 4.3.10
http://productsdirectory.co.uk/phpinfo.php
Interesting my fast (3 sec) server has PHP version 4.3.2

PHP Version 5.1.6
Apache 1.3.37
Still 10/11 secs based in US
Mine is
PHP Version 5.1.4
Apache 1.3.33
Godaddy us based server.
I am suffering more than 40% bounce rate away from my site, one of the possible reason could be the slow performance. Is anyone looking into this problem? ........................
Thx
I have noticed the same thing. my isp is running PHP version 4.4.4, Apache Version 1.3.37.
I simply uploaded everything as it was too start with, with no modifications other to change the caching parameter, and it runs very slowly all the time.

Hope you all have a good weekend,

Default installation running ok now
Apache 1.3.37
PHP 5.2.1 with soap extentions (This made the most difference in my setup);
Smarty Cache working.
Inactive links in firefox now working.
Thanks.
