View Full Version : Making money with these things!
Hey
Pretty new to the world of affiliate marketing... and I'm quite happy to have come across this script so soon.
Just a few questions...
Do people make a lot of money with these?
Does it mainly involve pushing people with by pay-per-click to certain pages within the site?
Can you track conversions?
Would anyone like to mentor me into creating my first profitable SW site ;)

I would totally offer to help you, if I thought I knew anymore than you do. I believe people do make money through affiliate marketing(legitimate products that is!). I have found a book realy useful, it's called "Starting an online business for dummies", I'm sure you're not a dummy, but it is really useful for even an intellectual! It leaves you with no illusions like making millions, but is much more realistic!
I have been finding it difficult with the putting on the Google ads, keywords, and other affililate schemes that I have joined up to. So if you have worked out any of these, it'd be great if you could let me know! And likewise, if there are any things that you haven't been able to work out, just ask and I'll see what I can do. (I think I also need a book on php!)
Take care :p

I currently run PPC for non affiliate websites and have been doing so for a number of years alongside SEO
What I tend to do is run PPC whilst I am waiting for Google and the Other SE's to pick up the organic pages
When I first started out I purchased this E-book it has served me well and taught me a lot of what I now use in Google Adwords
Here is the link which is a direct link not an affiliate link

I think you can make money from affiliate networks but it takes a good website and good marketing to attract people to your site. Choosing a niche that you know a lot about can really help, as good content really helps, choosing a network that offer your niche and the support you need to make it a success, different people go about their affiliate website in different ways some people only use ppc and some people don't have a complete understanding of them to make them completely profitable - it depends how much time and understanding you have as to whether you can make your PPC work for you.

I first started in this game by doing PPC and actually made some money. I think this was partly down to the time of year as I benefited a lot from Christmas traffic. However, after Christmas I seemed to lose the magic and started making losses on my PPC campaigns so I eventually gave up on it and just started trying to get more in to SEO instead - to which I still haven't got the hang of!
I've since gone back to using some PPC but only use it where I know I can make a profit, i.e. I'll set a site up, throw a few quid on PPC and get a general feel for the conversion rate. If that looks good I'll up the PPC budget and let it roll. If you're going to try PPC, just be careful as you can soon blow a lot of cash! Your best bet is once you've got your site up and are 100% happy with it, try and grab one of the introductory Adwords vouchers that are usually around where you can get £30-£40 of free clicks. That way, you won't lose out and you can see how your site converts.
As topaffiliategirl says, ideally you should just build a web site up for something you enjoy or are very knowledgeable about. Build it up with no adverts or affiliate links at all to start with and just get some interest in it. Once it's established, then add the content units, Shopwindow links, banners etc. The trouble is, this method requires patience and it's all too tempting to just make your site live quickly to try and make a quick buck.
Either way, good luck with it.
Cheers.

Spot on for the long term. If you start a blog and fill it up with ads straight away, you're just going to lose.
