Hello All,

I have been reading through all the posts in this forum, to try and find the solution to having a "Parent Category" for my website.

Yes, there are many responses relating to this subject, but I have tried them all, and they do not work.

Could some-one please prove me wrong, by providing a definitive solution (in full, for Dummies like myself)

best regards

Dave

Hi Dave,

If I understand the question right, yes - you can call the program with a category variable. For example, to go straight to Travel Accessories you just need to find out what category number that falls under (328 in my example) and then include a call to it at the end of the URL you use, like this ...

http://www.yourwebsite.com/shopwindow_directory/category.php?c=328#

I hope this is what you were after?

Best

Dave (another one) :-)

Hi Dave and Dave

Please see this: http://www.shopwindowforum.com/showthread.php?t=44&highlight=category

Whilst this does set the top of the tree, it is possible for a site to 'leak' away from the main theme via the drop down search boxes but at least it gives you a good starting point.

Also, if you want to you can hard code a new menu of either links to specific categories or individual searches, for example. There have been quite a few posts on how to do this in various different situations.

If you are more specific on exactly what you want to achieve then I am sure that you will get some help.

Hi Paul,

I (Dave #2) have no problem with visitors "leaking away" to other sections as you put it. I don't mind if they buy a holiday or a bed ... Just gimme da money! ;-)

I'm a total newbie to ShopWindow but I'm already liking it (a lot) - It runs very nicely inside a Joomla wrapper and I'm using calls like the example I gave simply to highlight certain sections that site visitors would search for and take a few clicks to get to otherwise.

As for Dave #1's original question, I'm not sure if it was what he was after or not, but I'm sure he'll tell us :-)
