I am struggling to comprehend why AW staff are posting info on merchant discount codes and links to individual merchants when we are already plagued with such offers via other routes?

Are we about to get several hundred join this merchant, join that merchant, type posts? Get this discount code, get that discount code?

Is not the Pixmania product feed already within the shopwindow client dataset? Should not offers form part of the dataset?

Puzzled anyone?

Paul

PS Here's an instant idea - why not get Pixmania to include the discount code within the description of every product that qualifies then all those discount codes will be visible on my sites and I would not have to contact anyone for anything!

Hi Paul,

The reason for the post on Pix Mania is that the drive behind the programme and the strategy to drive sales has changed slightly due to DSGi portfolio coming on board.

Therefore, Rachel wanted to ensure that affiliates who have signed up to our network for the specific purose of utilising ShopWindow will be aware of the competitive prices and vast product range that Pix Mania offer.

As a forum for ShopWindow, information which is deemed of value to all affiliates using the Toolset will be communicated.

Also, including discount codes within a feed is not always the most optimum solution, as this would allow for potential errors to occur when the feeds arent updated (with expired codes still being in them!).

Hi Amo

Thank you for the clarification.

Your last comment seems to indicate that some merchants do not keep their feeds up to date! Looking forward to some interesting discussions on the broader topic!

I, for one, would be happy to see a dedicated board within these forums for merchants to post updates, discounts, and ideas, and also to get some feedback from us affiliates.

Devil's advocate mode on:

1) It would be good to see who the more proactive merchants are, and we could also give feedback (like Paul's) about feeds, updates, and how often we receive discount codes etc.

2) I have seen affiliates on blogs etc complaining about the number of emails they get hammered with each day but, to my mind, if they want to sign up to 800 programs they bring it upon themselves to handle the amount of mail they receive as a result. Merchants can only try to keep you in the loop - If you haven't got time to keep up, maybe you should disconnect a few bits of the loop.

3) Getting a number of merchants involved in some healthy discussion with affiliates within a dedicated forum might lead to shorter emails with concise information - Date promo starts and ends, discount code to use, program name (yes, I got an email from someone the other week telling me all the info I needed except the merchant name!!)

Amo, can we have a dedicated board for merchants please? Even those merchants (and affiliates) that join but prefer to remain passive and just read the posts by others will benefit from knowing how many affiliates cope, and how much info they can take/need/want each day?

Just my 2 quids worth (less 8% if you use the promo code LOL)
