View Full Version : search to ean
Hello,
is it possible to search products for the EAN table and get the results??
raimund
Hello Raimund,
Currently, only a few merchants are passing EAN numbers via their datafeeds. ShopWindow can only operate on the data that merchants are giving to us.
We have been pressing merchants to include EAN numbers and this is an ongoing project.

Hello George,
thanks for your info. I am testing the api and can not search for a ean.
Here is an example:
The shop "borders" (http://www.price-24.co.uk/5/shopsearch1/1/2066.html) have ean's in his datafeed. If i search with a ean number, i can't find this?
http://www.price-24.co.uk/shopsearch1.php?query=8717418200497&Sort=relevancy&ShopID=2066
In all shops with ean's in his datefeeds is the same problem. This is what i meen.....

Hello Raimund,
Currently, ShopWindow searches the Title field and the Description field throughout a merchants datafeed. As we do not have a specific EAN field that is widely used by merchants then we have no reason to currently pool that extra resource.
If the merchant included the EAN or ISBN in their Title or Description then that would work, however, merchants (if they pass such numbers at all) put them into a separate column.

Hello George,
I think the EAN is becoming increasingly important and should be provided with a search. There are already very many merchants in containing an EAN in the datafeed. The effort would be very low to program for you.
It would be great if this would be done. Sorry for my bad english.....i am from Germany....

Raymond
Hi folks, just to add that ISBN/EAN search would be a great help for me as well.
It is in the datafeed (that's were I'm grabbing it from at the moment), but if the shopwindow only searches name and description it's inaccessible.
Hi guys,
Thank you for your input on this. I will bring this up with my team and we can discuss for a future release of the software.
We are currently pinned down with the Darwin workload but I will see if we can find some time for a brain-storming session.
Cheers
Thanks George. It's been a request for quite a while (http://www.shopwindowforum.com/showthread.php?t=24&highlight=isbn).
When I noticed that it was optional in the API Product object (http://wiki.affiliatewindow.com/index.php/Product_PSAPI) I put together some code to do a keyword search for my niche, then a product search for the results. But no joy, I can't find a single item with ISBN/EAN field. Foiled again
It kills me to have soo much data available but not being able to use it. Looks like I'll have to stick to downloading the datafeeds once a month and put up with the outdated pricing.
Hi Joe,
With any software release we have to try to pool our resources to create a product that can function broadly for all user types.
We have developments in mind, vertical developments, that function solely on such unique identifiers however with Darwin our resources are extremely limited.
Watch this space.
Cheers
