Is anyone else having the nightmare that I am, having just started up with Shop WIndow I find that the initial quota of 500 lasts a few hours then dumps the website into error mode. SInce I launched last weekend I've found that the quota gets updated sometime in the afternoon and runs out by the evening.
Aparently there's a problem for which AW are putting more servers in use, but there's nothing on their website to say that if you start up with SW expect 60% downtime for the forseeable future.... with no promises of this being put right.

It's not very professional to offer something which you cannot deliver - I'm a tad disappointed with AW considering everything else about their way of doing business seems to work fine

There.......... I've had my rant, I feel better now!

Currently experiencing this .. I contacted AW for an upgrade but since it's a weekend, I'm expecting a reply Monday/Tuesday.

It is irritating only having 500 though, as I've been unable to fully implement my design into my site ... only the index page, category page and retailer map page. The limits imposed over the last 3/4 days I've been working on it have stopped me doing the rest.

Hi there,

I have upgraded your quota to 10,000 calls a day which should tie you over until ShopWindow support have a chance to properly review your application.

Hope this helps some what:cool:

HI Ollie
Nice to get a positive response, but checked my quota this morning and it's still 500. Having to pull links to this site now to avoid embarrassment - the increase would be so useful to work on the site

Hello Nelie,

I will look into this, however, I am not promising anything as we cannot just increase peoples quota on a whim for many reasons.

Fantastic. Thank you very much Ollie. I woke up and checked, and was a very happy man :)

Edit: For some reason it's been reduced down to 3000 now though.

Thanks
I think that I've discovered where some of the quota goes when you start up with Shop WIndow.
One of the first things you do is enlist with all the companies that roll with this system (which is obviously a lot) and these folk then suss you out by logging into the website. My stat counter doesn't show many visits today but they all seem to be via Affiliate Window and merchants/pending_affiliates.php
I'm not sure that 15 visits via this route should have decimated 3000 units though... or am I missing something?

You'll find that 1 page view does not necessarily mean 1 request to shopwindow.
Some page views can pull a fair few requests from your quota, depending on the page and the way you use it.

You'll also find, especially with brand new site, that search engine crawlers (and spambots) will hit you quite hard.

Search these forums and you'll find some tips on how to block certain bots from your site, that will definitely save you nearly half your quota.

This is an issue I am having also. ShopWindow and php generally is all new to me so I am treating this as a learning exercise. I already have 2 simple html based affiliate sites but liked the more professional look of the ShopWindow package. I bought a new domain and only uploaded the client software last week. Affiliate Window do not have any details of my new domain so how could any merchants possibly know that it exists. I've not registered it with any search engines yet. The first day the client software was uploaded I was just experimenting with tweaking a few parameters in the php files and checking my website to see what effect it had (about 10 times). I then found that my quotas had all been used up. Today I'm down to 98 remaining and I haven't even looked at my website yet.

By registering a domain, you are telling the search engines that it exists.
And they will come.

When a user lands on your page, theres a few calls to SW, if they click the buy now link, there's another call to SW.

if a user clicks around your site, say 5 pages, that's probably about 20 calls. If they find what theyre looking for from 3 different merchants and click through to each, that's another 3 calls.

Crawlers (legitimate or not) will be perceived by everything as a user, and generate the same number of calls. By default, crawlers can access goto.php. use rel=nofollow to slow that down.

To guarantee that it's only you generating calls, block access to the site using cPanel: http://www.cpanel.net/docs/cpanel/Password_Protect_Directories.htm

I have been playing around with shop window on a couple of sites that were close to going "live". Is it possible to increase my quota as i see both sites are now displaying errors that the quota has been used.
