View Full Version : shopwindow.com site template
Guys, is the sitewindow.com site template available instead of the basic one?
No, infact I seem to remember an affiliate copying it and getting into some trouble for using the actual SW logos and images.
Although (at the risk of causing trouble for myself) the software is GNU General Public Licence (http://www.gnu.org/copyleft/gpl.html).
You can ask for the templates and SW cannot legally refuse to give you them. However, it does carry a "reasonable fee" clause, they could easily value their templates at £30m as there is no set limit on valuations. If you don't pay, they don't have to give.
The actual artwork involved with the templates is not covered by the licence (that's copyright), only the layouts in the templates (it's a code thing), which you could get by reading the (view) source code anyway.
It's far more fun doing things yourself anyway. You'll never get rich overnight with SW, so you might as well take the time to play around.
andy, I think you misunderstand. I don't want to use the shopwindow php code elsewhere. I'm after the web design template that the shopwindow.com uses. i think it looks really cool and would like to use the same one with a custom logo.
Hi Syanide
I was talking about the template. If you want to copy it, view->source and rob away.
Talking as someone that has previously had battles with people stealing designs without first seeking permission, I'd seriously suggest you seek permission to use any designs before going ahead and using it.
Affiliate Windows have come out on more than one occasion and have stated that their ShopWindows design is custom built as a show case for thier software, which is why it is deliberately not included in the client package.
Personally i'd say either design your own images and pages, or pay for someone else to do it for you if you can't yourself, but don't go just taking someone elses designs and especially not without permission, as that leads to copyright theft and lawsuits.
Hello Syanide,
I can see this causing some confusion so I will try to clear this up using the knowledge that I have on this matter. I can escalate this to my superior and our lawyers if needs be just in case anyone would like further clarification.
I do not believe that anyone above has said anything wrong, however, I will just clarify that you cannot use any design or imagery (where you will be taking images from SW.com and using them for yourself) as those are copyright to AW, unless you are given permission.
So things suchs as:
http://www.shopwindow.com/templates/default//images/search_button.gif
Or
http://www.shopwindow.com/templates/default//images/cat_clothing.gif
Or
http://www.shopwindow.com/templates/default//images/cat_dvd.gif
Or
http://www.shopwindow.com/templates/default//images/sw_logo.gif
Etc. you get the idea...
Using the layout that you find within the View Source is obviously allowed because our flagship site has been made using the software we release under the GNU.
We out sourced a designer, at our own cost, to have that showcase site built as a means of showing affiliates what can be achieved. The last thing that we want is for affiliates to then just copy and plunder other peoples designs having put in no effort of their own.
We release a bare bones template with the ShopWindow download to inspire affiliates to use the software to make it individual. After all, having thousands of clones is no use to anyone.
If you would like to speak further about this matter then please feel free to respond here or PM me.
