Is that the only folder that need write permissions?

I think the smarty/cache folder also needs 755 permissions, not too sure if this will solve your problems, as for php hosting, shopwindow works well on http://www.uk2.net reseller account.

Thanks for getting bak to me its much appreciated.I am new to this but in the manual this is the only file that is talked about changing permissions on.I am finding the support and information to newcommers not to be very good at all which is a shame as i am very interested in this but i just seem to have hit a brick wall and i am on the verge of giving up on this.
The manual is ok but there seems to be no idiots guide for newcommers when things dont go as expected, also there should be simple guides for changing headers/footers installing company names and logos and photos etc.

Thanks from a very frustrated user in Kent

Thing is Bob, most of the information you seek will probably be in this forum:

Change Logo Image (http://www.shopwindowforum.com/showthread.php?t=21&highlight=logo)

Its always best to have a look about the place first, in the likelihood that the question you have will have inevitably been asked by someone else.
