We all display the merchant logos on our SW sites. I presume everything is legal and above board.

What would be the legality of displaying a BRAND logo alongside a product too?

I dont want to end up getting sued by 10's of 1000's of companies

Anyone have any info on this subject?

Hi Andy,

As far as I'm aware, being signed up to the merchant's programme gives you the right to display their logo and use their name in any copy - like you'd have a product 'available from xxx store'. As long as you're not trying to pass your site off as being that of the merchant it shouldn't be a problem.

I have seen an increase in site visits from image checking software though, which is quite interesting. I can't remember what it was called but a quick visit to the IP address visiting took me to the homepage of some scary and quite serious looking 'brand identity protection' software which automatically scans web sites looking for anyone using brand logos inappropriately. Being as no-one has ever complained to me after scanning my logo images, I'm guessing they haven't got a problem with it!

Cheers.

It should be fine provided you do not misuse them as in promoting counterfeit products using the original brand image.
