Hi all,
I have slowed down my pace and settled on my template, sorry again Amoochi your help is appreciated!
Just one final question, is it possible for me to add some text into the header template on the default template?? And if so where would I edit it???

I think you have answered your own question.
You edit the header template of the default template, just add html etc

Cor, I wasn't meaning to be aggressive with you, I was just offering what I considered constructive advice.
If you have further questions ask them, don't let something that's been said stop you asking for advice.
The header.tpl and footer.tpl are the two that set the header and footer on every page, the index.tpl, category.tpl and all the other templates in that part of the folder cover the main pages and all the templates in the elements folder cover the individual bits on each page, such as the search box, hot picks and that sort of thing, the name of the template file are pretty self explanatory. For all your basic look and feel stuff you should only need to change the templates. You shouldn't need to edit the php files, so i'd say don't worry about them for the time being.
